Practical guide

From Venice to Treviso in a day

Treviso is just over 30 km from Venice and is one of the easiest day trips in the region. It's a city with canals and porticoes, but with the pace of those who live there—the natural alternative for anyone wanting to take a breath of fresh air away from crowded Venice.

How to get there

The simplest way is the regional train between Venezia Santa Lucia (or Venezia Mestre) and Treviso Centrale, with frequent departures throughout the day. Treviso's station is a short walk from the historic center, so there's no need to take any other transport after arriving. Check the day's schedules on the railway website before you leave, as they vary between weekdays and weekends.

What to do with your day

From the station, head to Piazza dei Signori, then to the Isola della Pescheria and the Buranelli canal. Set aside the early afternoon for the city walls and the banks of the Sile river, and the late afternoon for an aperitivo before heading back. A full day is comfortable; half a day is enough to see the core of the center.

Is it worth it?

Treviso is not a substitute for Venice—the two cities have different scales. But if you have three or more days in Venice, spending one of them in Treviso offers quiet piazzas, normal city prices, and Veneto food without the queues.
